Boxing legend Teddy Atlas has raised doubts about whether Mike Tyson and Jake Paul might have already predetermined the outcome of their upcoming fight.
Scheduled for July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the specifics of the bout, including the number of rounds and weight class, are yet to be finalized. Nevertheless, both Tyson, 57, and Paul, 27, have engaged in spirited public exchanges leading up to the event.
In a recent statement, Paul expressed his admiration for Tyson but hinted at his determination to make a lasting impression, recalling an initial encounter where Tyson mistakenly referred to him as Logan.
Meanwhile, Tyson, also known as ‘Iron Mike,’ teased his opponent with a social media post showcasing his intense training regime.
However, amidst the mounting excitement among fans and the fighters themselves, boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas remains cautious.
Atlas voiced his concerns on his YouTube channel, suggesting the possibility of an arrangement akin to a WWE-style scripted outcome.
He emphasized that he isn’t questioning Paul’s integrity, noting his respect for the younger fighter. Yet, he admitted that the unusual confidence displayed by Paul, coupled with Tyson’s aging, raised suspicions.
Atlas speculated on Paul’s potential strategy, noting the fighter’s growing confidence and powerful right hand, which could be effective against Tyson’s characteristic left hooks.
Nevertheless, he expressed surprise at the apparent risk Paul is taking, considering Tyson’s enduring power and speed.
While there’s no concrete evidence to support Atlas’ speculations, Paul and his management have dismissed numerous conspiracy theories surrounding the fight.
Despite Atlas’ reservations, the fight continues to generate buzz as the date approaches.
Tyson’s last bout was an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, while Paul scored a knockout victory over former NBA player Nate Robinson on the same card.
