Tyson and Paul Set to Clash on July 20th in Dallas
Contrary to previous speculation, no headgear will be used in the bout between Tyson and Paul.
This will mark ‘Iron Mike’s’ first fight since his November 2020 exhibition clash against Roy Jones Junior. It remains unclear if the bout will take place under professional rules.
The boxing world was stunned by the announcement of the July 20th bout between heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and social media superstar Jake Paul.
While a venue and broadcaster were confirmed, the fight rules remained a mystery until renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani provided some clarity.
Tyson, 57, last fought in November 2020 against fellow icon Roy Jones Junior in an exhibition match.
Jake Paul, who fought on the undercard of that event, has since seen his star power rise, with all his subsequent fights being officially sanctioned pro bouts.

Given the three-decade age difference, there has been debate over the safety of the fight.
Prominent figures like Eddie Hearn, Conor McGregor, Dana White, and Frank Warren have expressed concerns for Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion in history.
Speculation suggested the fight would be an exhibition with headgear and 18-ounce gloves, as former world title challenger Derek Chisora claimed.
However, according to Helwani, this will not be the case. Speaking on The MMA Hour, he explained that both fighters are pushing for a professional bout without headgear.
“They’re still working on a few important details. Is it pro or exhibition? They want pro, but that’s up to the Texas Commission. I’m told heavyweight rounds, they’re working on that as well. I’m told there is absolutely no headgear involved.
“This is going to look like a typical boxing match but is it an exhibition like Tyson’s last fight against Roy Jones in 2020, or is it just a normal pro heavyweight fight with no strings attached.”
Professional Bout Preferred
Tyson’s last contest with Jones Junior consisted of eight two-minute rounds with 12-ounce gloves but no headgear. A similar arrangement is expected for his fight with Paul.
Despite reservations, Tyson has started preparations for the July fight, showcasing his fearsome form in training videos on social media.
Though considered an underdog, the 58-fight veteran is confident as he aims to turn back the clock this summer.
