UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier Criticizes Mike Tyson’s Return to Boxing Against Jake Paul
Daniel Cormier, a UFC Hall of Famer, has expressed dissatisfaction with Mike Tyson’s decision to return to boxing to face Jake Paul.
Earlier this month, Tyson and Paul announced their plans to compete in a boxing match this summer, with the event likely being Tyson’s first real boxing match since 2005.
However, depending on the Texas State Athletic Commission’s decision, the bout with Jake Paul may be classified as an exhibition.
Fan reactions to the fight announcement have been mixed, with many criticizing Jake Paul for accepting the offer to fight Tyson given Tyson’s age.
The boxing legend is currently 57 years old and has been seen using a cane on occasion in recent years. This age gap is what frustrates Daniel Cormier.
During an episode of his ‘Good Guy, Bad Guy Podcast’ with Chael Sonnen, Cormier heavily criticized ‘The Problem Child’ for accepting the fight.
Cormier, noting that he himself is not a young man, pointed out that Tyson is nearly two decades older than him.
In Cormier’s view, Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson “absolutely sucks”. He expressed concern about Tyson’s ability to compete at his age, particularly after seeing Tyson use a walking stick during a UFC event last year.
Cormier questioned whether Tyson would be allowed to go all out against Paul, considering the risk involved.
He concluded by stating, “I think Mike Tyson’s fighting days are over. He will be 58 years old by the time he steps into the ring with Jake Paul.”
Do you agree with Daniel Cormier? Will you be watching Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson? Who do you think will win the heavyweight boxing match?
