Legendary American boxer Mike Tyson reunited with former opponent Evander Holyfield in the ring, marking a significant moment in their storied rivalry.
Tyson shared a photo of their reunion on his social media, reflecting on their history.
“We’ve come a long way since the bite fight,” Tyson wrote in the caption, referring to their infamous bout where Tyson bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear.
Holyfield responded to Tyson’s post with affection, saying, “I love you, Mike.”
The two boxers have a tumultuous history, having fought twice in the past. In their first encounter, Holyfield emerged victorious with a technical knockout. Their rematch ended in controversy when Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield’s ears.
Reflecting on the infamous ear-biting incident, Holyfield once explained Tyson’s actions, saying, “No, that won’t happen again. The thing is, I understand why he bit me then. There shouldn’t be such problems now. Tyson was trying to protect his image. He realized he was losing to a guy who, as he was told, had heart problems.”
Holyfield also noted Tyson’s transformation over the years, stating, “Now Mike is a very quiet person. He has become completely different. Tyson doesn’t lose his head and doesn’t get upset as often as before, because now he’s not trying to defend his former image.”
The reunion between Tyson and Holyfield symbolizes a reconciliation between two boxing legends, showcasing the evolution of their relationship beyond the ring.
