Tyson Fury recently discussed the possibility of an exhibition fight with boxing icon Mike Tyson, sharing his thoughts on the matter.
While initially intrigued, Fury disclosed that negotiations stalled due to insufficient financial terms. Despite being offered $10 million by ESPN for the exhibition, Fury concluded that the opportunity had elapsed.
Reflecting on the hypothetical bout, Fury acknowledged the delicate position he would have been in, regardless of the outcome.
Losing to a 53-year-old Tyson would invite criticism, while winning might have been seen as taking advantage of Tyson’s age and retired status.
Consequently, Fury decided against pursuing the fight due to the financial and reputational risks involved.
In a separate development, Fury commented on Mike Tyson’s involvement with Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion, as he transitions to boxing.
Expressing a tinge of sadness, Fury noted the irony of facing indirectly the man he was named after.
Despite recognizing the business aspect, Fury expressed regret over the circumstance, doubting Tyson’s capacity to significantly impact Ngannou’s boxing skills.
Ngannou’s departure from the UFC earlier this year paved the way for his move to the Professional Fighters League, granting him the opportunity to explore boxing.
Meanwhile, Fury has been inactive since his December victory over Derek Chisora, with negotiations for a bout against Oleksandr Usyk repeatedly stalling due to financial disagreements.
