Anthony Joshua recently shared his perspective on a hypothetical matchup between two boxing legends, Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali. During an Instagram Live session with JD Sports, Joshua expressed his belief that Tyson would have emerged victorious in their prime clash, citing Tyson’s utilization of modern science and information.
Joshua highlighted the evolution of the heavyweight division, noting that during Ali’s reign, heavyweights were ranked similarly to cruiserweights. However, with the emergence of fighters like Tyson, Larry Holmes, George Foreman, and Lennox Lewis, heavyweights began to grow in size and strength. Joshua suggested that Tyson’s style and physicality would have posed a significant challenge for Ali, even if the latter had been bulked up to compete in the modern era.
Drawing parallels between Ali’s fights with Joe Frazier and Tyson’s style, Joshua pointed out Tyson’s ability to study and emulate Frazier’s aggressive approach. He argued that Tyson’s strategic approach and physical prowess would have given him the edge over Ali.
