In the upcoming controversial bout scheduled for July 20 in Texas, LENNOX LEWIS expresses greater concern for Jake Paul than for the 57-year-old Mike Tyson. This clash between the heavyweight icon and the YouTuber-turned-boxer raises eyebrows, considering it marks 20 years since Tyson’s last professional fight and over two decades since Lewis’s victory over Tyson in 2002.
While there are concerns about Iron Mike’s well-being, especially with the bout being officially sanctioned, Lewis, who defeated Tyson in their previous encounter, focuses his worry on Paul. He emphasizes Tyson’s enduring punching power and aggressive ring presence, warning of the consequences if Paul gets hit by Tyson’s blows.
Although Tyson’s last appearance in the ring was a 2020 exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr, his return signifies a willingness to defend his legacy, despite officially retiring in 2005 after defeats to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride.
The upcoming bout between Tyson and Paul will feature revised rules, including the use of larger 14oz gloves and eight two-minute rounds. Paul, with a record of 9-1, seeks to add another victory to his resume in his first heavyweight fight.
While Lewis acknowledges the speculation surrounding a potential rematch with Tyson under exhibition rules, he remains pragmatic, stating that his consideration would be driven by financial incentives rather than mere speculation.
