The police arrived, scaring Nikolai, who fled before they could catch him.
The next day, Sienna and Thomas searched for Nikolai, knowing he couldn’t have gone far. They found an abandoned Victorian house and heard a woman’s plea for help from inside. Sienna called the police, and soon, a crowd gathered.
The authorities broke in, finding a distressed woman. In broken English, she said her name was Asya. She explained she came to the States for a better life but ended up imprisoned by a monster.
They rescued her, and Nikolai emerged from the basement.
“What about the man who did this?” Sienna asked.
“We’ve already sent officers to arrest him at his job. Nikolai and Asya will be taken to a safe place. She came here as a mail-order bride. We’ll ensure they get the help they need,” the officers responded.
A single photo led to a shocking discovery and saved two lives.
“I believe the latest photo for the mantle deserves a special place,” Thomas told Sienna, holding a framed print of the now-famous photo they had posted.
“It’s the best of the bunch,” Sienna quipped.
