Jake Paul has responded to Conor McGregor’s criticism of his upcoming fight with Mike Tyson, dismissing it as jealousy.
The controversial clash between YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul and heavyweight boxing icon Tyson is scheduled for July 20 in Texas.
Despite the significant age gap – with Tyson being 58 and Paul just 27 – the anticipation for the fight has been palpable.
McGregor, among others, has expressed skepticism about the bout, but Paul didn’t hold back in defending it on his podcast.
Paul highlighted the immense interest generated by the fight, pointing out the staggering number of articles and social media views it has garnered.
He emphasized that the face-off between him and Tyson has captured unprecedented attention, making it, in his opinion, the biggest fight the world will ever witness.
Addressing McGregor’s remarks, Paul questioned the motives behind the criticism, especially from “old heads” like McGregor.
He suggested that jealousy might be driving such comments and urged against attempts to undermine the significance of the event.
In terms of his boxing career, Paul currently boasts a record of 9-1, with his only defeat coming against Tommy Fury last year. However, he bounced back with three consecutive victories.
As for Tyson, although officially retired since 2005, he made a comeback in 2020 for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., ending in a draw after eight rounds.
McGregor, who hasn’t fought since July 2021 but is rumored to be eyeing a return this summer, has also expressed skepticism about Tyson’s comeback. Despite his reservations, McGregor wished Tyson well.
In the world of combat sports, controversy and skepticism often accompany high-profile matchups, but Paul remains undeterred, confident in the magnitude and significance of his impending showdown with Tyson.
