Logan Paul has set his sights on yet another American boxing icon after going the distance with Floyd Mayweather in an eight-round exhibition match. The YouTuber hinted at the possibility of facing Mike Tyson next, citing Tyson’s age, 54, as a potential advantage for him.
After surviving the exhibition bout with Mayweather, Paul expressed his interest in continuing his boxing career. He believes that Tyson’s age, especially as he approaches 55, could work in his favor if they were to face off in the ring.
During an episode of his Impaulsive podcast, Paul revealed, “Someone mentioned Mike Tyson. My lawyer mentioned it and he’s like, ‘Nah, Tyson will rip your head off, you don’t stand a chance.’ I’m like, ‘I just went through all this.’
You can’t tell me I can’t beat Mike Tyson. He’s old, old.”
Tyson, like Mayweather, made a comeback to the ring for a post-retirement exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr. Their November 2020 match ended in a draw.
Despite Mayweather’s undefeated record and status as one of boxing’s greatest, he was unable to knock out Paul during their exhibition at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
This unexpected outcome generated significant attention, with over one million pay-per-view purchases, rivaling major boxing events.
Critics pointed out Paul’s excessive clinching during the fight, and Mayweather’s decision to participate drew scrutiny as well. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn questioned Mayweather’s performance, stating that it didn’t reflect well on the sport.
Hearn expressed his concerns on the DAZN Boxing Show, saying, “This never felt comfortable for me. The person this looked worse on than anybody, and he probably doesn’t care, is Floyd Mayweather. He looked quite terrible.
If you’re a young fan, you see Floyd Mayweather last night you go, ‘He was the best ever?'”
