Mike Tyson reportedly had a specific condition before agreeing to face Jake Paul. The announcement of the return of ‘Iron Mike’ alongside Paul and Netflix caused a stir worldwide. The Netflix account tweeted: “It’s JAKE PAUL vs. MIKE TYSON — yes, really! — in a LIVE BOXING event at AT&T Stadium you won’t want to miss. Airing live on Netflix Saturday, July 20 #PaulTyson.”
In May 2022, Tyson revealed on the Club Random Podcast that he would only agree to fight the YouTuber-turned-boxer if it broke pay-per-view records, which now seems unusual as the event will be available to all Netflix users, not on PPV. Regarding Paul, Tyson stated: “I don’t look at him the way society does, I can’t even say what they call him. He’s a fighter but they don’t want to acknowledge him as one. He can fight, and everybody wants to take him down because he annoys everyone. He’s a great promoter, he doesn’t even realize it. He’s just a naturally great promoter.” ‘We signed the contract.’ @netflix @MostVpromotions tions #PaulTyson
Yesterday, it was confirmed that the fight has been officially sanctioned as a professional contest, to be recorded on both of their records. The heavyweight showdown will consist of eight, two-minute rounds with each fighter using 14-ounce gloves, but they will not wear headgear. Knockouts are permitted as it is a professional contest. Both Mike Tyson and Netflix insisted it be a professional fight, and so I agreed to make it one. Winner takes all.
