Mike Tyson has shared that the passing of his mother shaped the man he has become today.
Known as ‘Iron Mike,’ he is celebrated as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in history.
At just 20 years old, Tyson made history by winning the heavyweight title against Trevor Berbick, a remarkable achievement considering he had only begun his professional career less than two years earlier.
However, one cannot overlook the role his upbringing played in his success. Tyson’s childhood was marked by violence and instability, growing up in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood after his father abandoned him at a young age.
Raised by his mother, Lorna Tyson, alongside three siblings, Tyson faced adversity early in life.
In 1982, tragedy struck when Lorna was diagnosed with late-stage cancer and passed away the same year.
